Terms of Service

Last updated: 13 June 2026

These terms govern your use of Tell Me (tellme.bio), operated by Tell Me Stories Ltd (registered in Scotland, registered office: Office 416, 18 Young Street, Unit LGE, Edinburgh EH2 4JB). By creating an account or using our service, you agree to these terms.

1. The service

Tell Me is a subscription service that sends personalised questions to your nominated storyteller (a family member, typically an elderly parent or grandparent) and captures their responses as stories in a digital archive. We provide:

  • Personalised question delivery via WhatsApp, email, or our mobile app
  • Voice note transcription
  • AI-powered story enrichment
  • A searchable story archive
  • Story sharing features

2. Accounts and eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You must provide accurate and complete information when registering
  • One account per person — do not create multiple accounts

3. Your responsibilities

As the host (account holder), you agree to:

  • Inform the storyteller about Tell Me before the first message is sent. We recommend a phone call or text explaining what to expect.
  • Ensure the storyteller consents to receiving messages and having their responses recorded and processed
  • Respect the storyteller's wishes — if they want to stop, pause the service promptly
  • Provide accurate contact details for the storyteller (correct phone number or email)
  • Not use the service for any unlawful, abusive, or harmful purpose

4. Subscriptions and payment

  • Tell Me is a paid subscription service, billed monthly or annually
  • Payments are processed securely by Stripe
  • Your subscription renews automatically until cancelled
  • You can cancel at any time from your account dashboard — no notice period required
  • We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods, except at our discretion
  • We may change our pricing with 30 days' notice. Price changes do not affect your current billing period.

5. Cancellation and Legacy mode

  • When you cancel an active subscription, new questions stop being sent to the storyteller
  • All existing stories, recordings, and data are preserved — we never delete stories
  • You may switch to Legacy mode (reduced-price, read-only access) to maintain access to your archive
  • If your payment lapses or you cancel without deleting your account, your stories and recordings are kept safe indefinitely — we never delete them unless you actively ask us to. You can reactivate at any time to start sending questions again.
  • Deleting your account is a separate, deliberate action (see section 11) — only then is your data removed.

6. Content ownership and licence

  • Your content belongs to you. Stories, voice recordings, and all content submitted through the service remain the intellectual property of you and your storyteller.
  • You grant Tell Me a limited licence to store, process, transcribe, enrich, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the service
  • This licence ends when you delete your account and we complete the deletion of your data
  • We will never use your stories for marketing, training AI models, or any purpose other than providing the service to you, unless you give explicit written consent

7. AI processing

  • We use AI to transcribe voice recordings and to enrich stories into narrative form
  • AI-generated content is provided as a complement to, not a replacement for, the original recording and transcript
  • AI outputs may occasionally contain inaccuracies. The original recording and transcript are always preserved as the authoritative record.
  • Our AI processors (OpenAI and Anthropic) do not use your data to train their models under our data processing agreements

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • Use Tell Me to send unsolicited messages to anyone who has not been informed and consented
  • Submit content that is illegal, abusive, threatening, or violates the rights of others
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of our software
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the service
  • Resell or redistribute the service without our written permission

9. Availability and support

  • We aim to provide a reliable service but do not guarantee 100% uptime
  • We may perform maintenance that temporarily affects availability, with advance notice where possible
  • Support is available via email at hello@tellme.bio
  • We aim to respond to support requests within 24 hours

10. Limitation of liability

  • Tell Me is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service
  • Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law

11. Termination

  • You may delete your account at any time — directly in the Tell Me app (Account → Delete my account) or from your account settings on the web. You can also email hello@tellme.bio if you prefer.
  • When you delete your account, there is a short grace period (currently 14 days) during which you can recover it, after which all your stories, recordings, and data are permanently deleted
  • We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, with notice where reasonable
  • On termination, your right to use the service ends immediately
  • Data deletion following termination is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email at least 14 days in advance. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
