The stories stay. Even when the questions stop.
Some families ask questions for years. Some stop after a season, when life gets busy or it just feels like the right time. Whenever it happens, Legacy mode keeps the whole archive open, exactly as you left it.
Nothing is ever deleted
When a plan ends, we don't delete anything. Every story, every recording, every photo stays where it is. That doesn't depend on a card, a plan, or you remembering we exist.
You can always download everything, free
Any time, on any plan or no plan at all, you can download the whole archive: every story as text, every original recording, every photo and video. It comes as ordinary files that play without us, so you're never locked in.
A year to decide
For the first year after your subscription ends, you can still open the archive in the Tell Me app and on the website, just as before. No rush, no charge.
Then, Legacy mode
After that, Legacy mode keeps the archive open for $25 a year. It gives you:
- every story, in the app and on the web, searchable by name, place and theme
- their actual voice, whenever you want to hear it
- family members you've invited, who keep their access too
- links to share a single story with someone new
You only ever need one Legacy mode, however many storytellers are on your account. And while anyone on your account is still getting questions, you don't need it at all.
Why we charge anything at all
Keeping a family's recordings safe for decades costs real money: storage, backups, and keeping the app working on phones that don't exist yet. We'd rather be honest about that than promise "free forever" and quietly close one day. Legacy mode is priced to cover that care, and nothing more.
Coming back years later
If you download the files and step away, you can come back in five years and switch Legacy mode on. Everything will be there, exactly as it was. And if the questions can start again, you can pick a plan and carry on from the last story.
If you'd rather it was gone
It's your family's archive. You can delete any story, or the whole thing, yourself from your account settings. We'll ask you to confirm first, because once it's gone, it's gone.
